Tryouts for next season's YBL and NBL squads saw more than 200 young people turn up to the sessions at WQE College.
Leicester Dynamite has recorded its highest ever turnout for junior trials, with around 210 young people competing for places in the club’s 2026/27 squads.
Across a busy trial period in May and early June, around 210 players took part in trials - a 24% rise on last year’s figure of around 170. The increase of roughly 40 trialists represents both the club’s continued growth and the rising interest in basketball across the region.
Following Dynamite’s success last season with four teams winning their respective leagues - and the U14 and U16 squads also earning promotion - the club’s visibility has grown significantly. Next season, Dynamite teams will compete in both the U14 and U16 Premier leagues, further raising the club’s profile.
The record attendance is about more than numbers. The increased interest means:
Coaches and volunteers were particularly encouraged to see returning players trialling again alongside those stepping onto court with Dynamite for the first time, creating a blend of existing and emerging talent that the club hopes to build on in the years ahead.
Trials placed emphasis not only on technical skills and game understanding, but also on attitude, teamwork and coachability - qualities the club views as essential to long-term development.
Head coach Dave Harris said: “It is a fantastic increase in young people trying out and a great indication of the continued growth of the club and interest in basketball across the region.
“It’s certainly something we’re very pleased about and a positive sign for the future of the programme. I’d like to thank all the coaches for their time, hard work and effort during the trials, which is hugely appreciated and helped make it a big success.”
As decisions are finalised and squads are confirmed, Coach Dave is also keen to acknowledge every young person who attended this year’s trials. Whether they secure a place for 2026/27 or return to try again in future seasons, he says they are all part of the story of a club that continues to grow.
